FAQs

Do I need a referral from my primary care veterinarian for my pet to be seen at Thrive?

No, a referral is never required for an initial consultation about surgery at Thrive. Simply call us directly at (907) 931-8139 or email us.

Absolutely! We’ll discuss all surgical treatment options and their related costs with you in advance of any treatment provided to your pet.

We accept all major credit cards and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover). We also accept Cherry and CareCredit, which offer financing plans for veterinary services.

If any additional diagnostics are needed before surgery, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment with enough time to receive all test results prior to your pet’s procedure.

Before the day of surgery, we’ll provide all pre-operative instructions, including fasting, drop-off time, and any medications your pet should receive the night before and the morning of surgery. These instructions will be reviewed with you over the phone and provided in writing via email.

Dr. Serratore will personally call you after surgery. You’re also welcome to call us during the day for updates.

You are welcome to wait onsite, but surgery and recovery can take several hours. Expect an early evening pick-up.

With today’s progressive approaches to surgery, along with minimally invasive techniques, almost all surgeries can be done on an outpatient basis so your pet can recover in the comfort and familiarity of home. Should your pet require overnight monitoring, we’ll coordinate transfer to an appropriate local facility.

When your pet is discharged, you’ll be given written aftercare instructions tailored to your pet’s procedure. We’ll review these with you before you head home.

It’s important to set up a quiet, confined area for your pet’s recovery — using a crate, baby gates, or a corral — to prevent your pet from jumping or running right after surgery.

Yes. We’ll schedule this follow-up visit (or visits) before your pet is discharged. If your pet had a biopsy or other lab tests performed related to their surgery, these results typically arrive within two weeks and Dr. Serratore will review them with you during your pet’s post-op visit.

At Thrive, we consider your primary care veterinarian to be an integral member of your pet’s care team. We’ll send him or her a copy of the surgery report and any follow-up records so everyone’s on the same page about your pet’s health status.

We understand that life happens and plans can change. But when a client cancels without advance notice or misses an appointment, it prevents another patient in need from being seen. For this reason, we’ve instituted the following cancellation policy:

  • Consultations and follow-up visits that are missed or cancelled within 24 business hours may be subject to a cancellation fee equal to the full price of the appointment.
  • Surgical procedures requiring sedation or anesthesia that are missed or canceled within 48 business hours may be subject to a cancellation fee equal to half the lower end of the estimate.
  • Late arrivals (more than 15 minutes) for any appointment or surgery may result in rescheduling fees and/or cancellation.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to ensure all pets receive the care they need in a timely and respectful manner. Please contact us as soon as possible if you cannot make your scheduled appointment.
