Kari joined the Thrive team at the start of 2025. Originally from California, she grew up with a variety of small and large animals and developed a passion for them from an early age. After a short stay in AK in 1996, Kari moved pack permanently in 2000 and is thrilled to call AK her forever home. After a few years in emergency medicine, Kari discovered her love for veterinary surgery. She is now an experienced and dedicated specialty surgery and anesthesia technician with over 10 years serving the specialists of Alaska. Outside of work, Kari enjoys painting, thrift store shopping, camping, playing board games, and spending time with her friends and her husband Dan. She and Dan share their household with 5 adorable dogs (Ullr, Nugget, Snoopy Blue, Lula, and Gunnar).

Dr. Serratore performed surgery on my 11-year-old male GSD on Thursday, November 3rd to remove a large and probably malignant tumor from his throat. She did a magnificent job, and my boy (Qanuk) was able to come home with me Thursday afternoon. He is doing just great, eating well and wanting to play! Dr. Serratore was extremely professional and worked very hard to give me all of our options along with their pros and cons. I cannot thank her enough for her efforts! I would VERY highly recommend Dr. Serratore to anyone looking for a skilled, caring and professional veterinary surgeon.
