VETERINARY CLINICS IN ALASKA
Dr. Vanessa Serratore is a residency-trained surgeon who performs emergency and advanced small animal surgeries including soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurologic procedures.
A native to the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Serratore received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Washington State University in 2011. She was then offered an internship, followed by a specialty surgical internship, at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Orlando, FL. Dr. Serratore later moved to Columbus, OH where she completed a three-year small animal surgery residency at Medvet in 2016. Here she received extensive specialized training in soft tissue, oncologic, neurologic, minimally invasive, and orthopedic surgeries.
Although Dr. Serratore performs a variety of surgeries, her clinical interests include oncological cases, intervertebral disc disease, and TPLOs. She has also spoken at national conferences, participated in clinical field studies, and published a paper on tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) complications following treatment of canine cranial cruciate ligament ruptures.
After practicing small animal surgery on the west coast, Dr. Serratore moved to Alaska at the end of 2018 to join the Tier 1 team. There she had the opportunity to build a surgery department and get to know the pet owners of Alaska. Dr. Serratore has since fallen in love with the state, both the landscape and the people.
Dr. Serratore’s veterinary roots stem from her parents, who successfully built, owned, led, and retired from a veterinary practice in Seattle, WA. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Thrive Veterinary Surgical Services was launched in May 2022. Dr. Serratore’s vision is to give every veterinary clinic and veterinary professional in Alaska access to advanced small animal surgical services.
When she is not performing surgery, Dr. Serratore can be found exploring the outdoors by foot, horseback, water, or air. Her passions include hiking, camping, horseback riding, water skiing, and snowshoeing.
